This is what THe Aiken Community Playhouse website had to say about the upcoming show:

"THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) embodies one of comedy's most essential impulses: the adolescent urge to take a baseball bat to the culturally revered. A mix of pratfalls, puns, willful misreadings of names and dialogue, clunky female impersonations, clean-cut ribaldry, and broad burlesque. The gung-ho vitality is impossible to resist. The conversion of the histories into a football game is very funny. So is a rap version of OTHELLO. HAMLET truly soars and allows the actors to come into their own as manic clowns. At its giddiest, its tone recalls the fabled Bullwinkle cartoon shows."

Well, this was a shocker!

I was out and about quite early this morning.  I really couldn't believe what I was seeing come up on me in my rear view mirror.  Yes, it was early - and ok - I was a little tired....but I knew I was awake....and this just seemed like I should be dreaming.

As most of you know, my camera is never far.   I snapped this shot while driving...... do you see what is behind me?

elephant on a trailer....driving thru town

I pulled over to take this pic - -  and then I caught up to him at the red light.  I asked the driver where he was taking the elephant......and the answer.....  'to church'.     Well, duh - - where else would an elephant be headed on Sunday morning, lol.

The best in the world lives here - you could too! Live where you play :)

For those who have never seen a polo match, I recommend you do so if the opportunity ever presents itself.  I saw my first match a few years ago, and now I'm hooked.    It was a preliminary match - - -narrowing down the competition for the Gold Cup.  Very exciting.   It is a lot of fun for spectators, too.   Yes...you really do stomp the divets during half time (like in the movie Pretty Woman) lol.   Spectator participation so to speak.

I have a polo ball - used during the Gold Cup final match...signed by the winning team members! How cool is that.   They will sign whatever you give them, hehe.

Aiken plays host to many major polo tournaments...as well as local club matches.  (some of the local players are VERY VERY good)    The best player in the world, Adolfo Cambiaso adolfo cambiaso  lives where he plays - New Bridge Polo & Country Club.  You could live here, too.    I'll post a little 'learn all about polo' when the season gets closer.    I will tell you this - a polo field is like three times the size of a football field.

My Aiken

montage of pictures around town - aiken south carolina

One of the most beautiful cities I have had the honor to call home.  Aiken has something for everyone.  And great weather pretty much all year long :)     I love Aiken.    Small town feel...yet all the amenities of a larger city.   3 hours east of Atlanta - 1 hour to Columbia, our State Capital - 2 1/2 hours to the ocean - 2 hours to the mountains - 7 hours to Disney World - and about 12 hours to Northern NJ :)

Aiken, South Carolina.   Come see for yourself.

Three Blocks To Dirt!

Yup, you heard me.  3 blocks to dirt!  In Aiken that means a lot.   Dirt is the horse district.  There you can watch the thoroughbreds train in the mornings, enjoy breakfast at the Track Kitchen, watch a polo match...... maybe even watch an Olympian train!!! (I'll talk about that in another blog)   As you drive down Two Notch Road you will know you are in the horse district when the road changes from paved to dirt.    Another indication might be some of the street signs.

 horse crossing sign

Well, this house is like three blocks to dirt, haha.  Great location.   Convenient to the Horse District - Whiskey Road/ Southside - Downtown - and to the bypass (if you work in Augusta)

                                         polo match

Three bedrooms - One and one half baths,  big back yard, off street parking, wood burning fireplace, refinished hardwood floors..... I could go on and on.

Oh - and it is the ONLY two story house on the street.

Here are some pictures:

Is it the beach? - - or the shore? (either way I miss my Daddy)

The Shore. For me it will always be the shore.  My friend Rob posted a recent blog about Seaside Heights, NJ.   This is where my Grandmother (my dads mom) lived.  Of course we visited ALL THE TIME!  My dad took care of things for her.  I loved going down the shore - and I still do.

But there was nothing like Seaside Heights.  Especially back in the day.  I don't know how it is now.  It has been over 12 years since I've been there :(

the pier at seaside heights, nj

Here is a link to Robs Blog -  play the video - and see where I spent my summers, and then some......

This video brought back so many memories.  Memories of my father.   I miss him.

Yesterday would have been my dad's birthday.  (he's been with God for five years now).  This brought back such great memories for me.  Thanks Rob :)

My dad was the one that taught us to swim.  And my sister and I swim like fish, lol.  So we had lots of fun down the shore.   Yes, we might have had to wait for him to fix the leaky kitchen faucet first.... but then he would be on the beach with us - and teaching us how to body surf, beach combing.... At night we would do the boardwalk - the games......etc ...OMG!!  ... What fun!!

                  ferris wheel at night

And even though this film was taken in 1960 - - the boardwalk, etc had not changed much (except for prices + clothes - cars, lol) from what I can remember :)

I haven't been to Seaside Heights in a looooong time.  I would like to drive down my Nana's old street sometime, and check out the old neighborhood.  Not to mention the beach and the boardwalk :)   (and get some zeppoles, yummmm.

                                                             zeppoles

Thanks for the memories, Rob :)    (and for making me hungry, lol)
