The Fridge - yup, William Refrigerator Perry. Former Chicago Bear. Da Bears! Did you know he was a local guy here in Aiken. Born and raised :) Being a 'football girl' I knew it before we even moved here!
Well, he has been in the hospital for the past couple of weeks - but thankfully this morning his condition has been upgraded to 'fair'. He had been in 'serious' condition - so this upgrade is great news. He is suffering from Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a chronic inflammation disorder of the peripheral nerves. Here is the story from our local newspaper. The Aiken Standard.

He is a very nice man. I've had the opportunity to speak with William on many occasions. I used to work part-time for Bi-Lo (a local grocery store for those who don't know, lol) We would chit chat from time to time when he would come down the aisle I happened to be stocking at the time. One time we bumped into eachother at the Columbia Airport - it was funny - he was like, Kara?? Wait! Shouldn't you be at Bi-Lo, hahaha. He was actually on his way to one of the Super Bowls - heading out about a week early, and I was meeting clients on an arriving flight.
Let's keep the Fridge in our thoughts (and prayers if it applies to you) to beat this disease, and have a speedy and complete recovery.

I'm pleased to hear he is doing better. As a New England Patriot Fan I remember the Bears with the Fridge completely killing us in the 1986 Super Bowl.
Yes this is great news...I hope he can heal up and be better soon!
Oh the memories of him! A Great football player and so much fun to watch. God Bless him and here' to praying for a speedy recovery!
I'm glad to hear is condition has improved. The '85 season is one us Bear fans will never forget.
Hi Steve- yes, it was nice to see his condition upgraded!
Hi Allen (and the team!) It certailnly is a step in the right direction :)
Hey Jim - your prayers are appreciated, I'm sure! I loved watching him run right over the defensive linemen, hahah.
Hi Tony - ahhh - da Bears! Remember the shuffling crew, lol

Hey Valerie - time flies doesn't it! I'm sure you're right about the positive thoughts :)
I remember watching him as a kid growing up. Glad to hear he is doing better.

Hey Bill - Hey Gene - thanks for stopping by. I loved watching him play back in the day :)
I remember watching the "Fridge" play against the New England Patriots, when the bears beat the Patriots in the Superbowl. It is tough to forget. But all my best to the "Fridge"
Thanks Joseph. Ya - I guess that is a tough one for y'all up there to forget, lol.
I heard the Fridge just got out of the hospital...hope he continues to recover...it just sucks being sick!
That is WONDERFUL news!! I have a friend who is a nurse....I saw her yesterday and forgot to ask how he was doing. And you are absolutely right - it does suck being sick.
Have a great weekend :)
Hi Kara,
My wife is from Chicago and a Bears fan. Let's hope he makes a full recovery.
