Tips for when the lights go out

Storm season is here and power outages should be expected in many parts of the country.  Lucky for me I live in Aiken, and my power rarely goes out!   Let me know when you are ready to move here :)

THINGS TO KEEP ON HAND FOR POWER OUTAGES:

a cooler (or more if you have room to store them)

ice -  keep as much on hand as you can store.

light bulb

WHAT TO DO:

Keep your freezer FULL - it will keep the temp longer than a 1/2 full freezer (with the door kept closed)

Keep fridge and freezer doors CLOSED!!

Use up the perishable stuff first --- then go to non-perishable items.

Hi Kara-Great tips and we are lucky cause the power doesn't go out too often here either. Guess we live in the right place. Hope you have doing well. :-)

Kara....good stuff. I would hope that you might consider candles. The times that the power goes out can be a blessing in disguise.

This is really valuable stuff this summer up here Kara.  We have had sooo many lightning strikes.  My phones got zapped and I need to replace them now as they are intermittent.

One thing though.  If you have a vacation home it is probably not a good idea to leave a full freezer unless you have a friend to come in and check on the place often.  One of my friends at Lake Marion had a very nasty situation when the power went out for several days.  EWWEEEE.
