The Shore. For me it will always be the shore. My friend Rob posted a recent blog about Seaside Heights, NJ. This is where my Grandmother (my dads mom) lived. Of course we visited ALL THE TIME! My dad took care of things for her. I loved going down the shore - and I still do.
But there was nothing like Seaside Heights. Especially back in the day. I don't know how it is now. It has been over 12 years since I've been there :(

Here is a link to Robs Blog - play the video - and see where I spent my summers, and then some......
This video brought back so many memories. Memories of my father. I miss him.
Yesterday would have been my dad's birthday. (he's been with God for five years now). This brought back such great memories for me. Thanks Rob :)
My dad was the one that taught us to swim. And my sister and I swim like fish, lol. So we had lots of fun down the shore. Yes, we might have had to wait for him to fix the leaky kitchen faucet first.... but then he would be on the beach with us - and teaching us how to body surf, beach combing.... At night we would do the boardwalk - the games......etc ...OMG!! ... What fun!!

And even though this film was taken in 1960 - - the boardwalk, etc had not changed much (except for prices + clothes - cars, lol) from what I can remember :)
I haven't been to Seaside Heights in a looooong time. I would like to drive down my Nana's old street sometime, and check out the old neighborhood. Not to mention the beach and the boardwalk :) (and get some zeppoles, yummmm.

Thanks for the memories, Rob :) (and for making me hungry, lol)

I wonder if the roof top miniature golf is still open - - and is the saltwater pool still there? They were lots of fun.
We had alot of fun at Henry's, too. It has long since closed up - ----and here I am, stuck with like 10,0000.00000 hard earned points from playing skee-ball....and no place to cash them in. I had been saving for YEARSSSS for that BIG PRIZE!!
Kara
It depends. Originally from New Jersey we went to the shore. We have been living Florida and we go to the beach. So I guess you would tell some one were to go would based on were you live.
Good luck and success
Lou Ludwig
I think you are right, Lou! Where in Jersey you from?!!
My friends from North of Delaware say Shore and those of us in the south say Beach. No matter what you call it the fun was always there at those old boardwalks and piers!
exactly, Cindy!
Kara, I'm sorry for your loss of Dad. Nice tribute and ThemThem to Dad.
You are welcome Kara!~ I am glad to bring a smile to your face.... I just cant believe that I did it on your Dad's Birth day :(
And it is only the "bennies" that say "I'm going down the Shore"!
us Locals say we are going to the beach!
Rob
bennies schmennies. and I suppose you call it 'pork roll'....instead of 'taylor ham', too, lol
thanks Duane. some days are harder than others.
thats because it is pork roll!
it is? I'm not so sure bout that, Rob, lol
soooooooooo- IS THE ROOF TOP MINIATURE GOLF STILL THERE - ON THE BOARDWALK IN SEASIDE HEIGHTS???
I take my boat and go to the beach. I knew you from NJ when you said you call it the shore.
We go to fabulous FIRE ISLAND and sleep on the boat, BBQ with friends, listen to live bands at the CASINO, the only bar and restaurant where you can see both the ocean and the bay!
I think it is... but I am not 100% sure... If I were to play minature golf I would go to Point Pleasant Beach NJ...
haha - can't hide 'the jersey' in me, lol. I've been to Fire Island - once. Thanks Toby & John!
point pleasant - - hmmm...I think they still have a 'henrys playland' there , Rob- maybe I can cash in my skeeball points afterall, lol
