Wow - the Jamaicans are doing some running in these Olympics! This country has never had a 100m run champion and now they have both the male and female gold medalists :) Awesome.
Here's what they accomplished:
Shelly-Ann Frazier: she was youngest - shortest - least experienced in the field tonight and she blew them away. Her final time: 10.78

Oh - and not just Shelly-Ann taking the gold - but her teammates took silver and bronze, too! A SWEEP !!! :) How awesome is that for their country.
Now last night Usain Bolt: the tallest in the field. he runs like a lightening bolt. Set the new world record 9.69 . I can't wait to see him in the 200m.

I'm so proud of all of the Olympic athletes. Some of the back stories are incredible.
Did you hear about the swimmer that can't even train in his own country because there is no olympic size pool anywhere in the country. Wow!!
They don't have ANY in his entire country - and we have thousands here in America. Wow! The things we take for granted.
How bout the American male gymnastic team - losing two of their returning Olympians to injury - throwing the team together (pretty much last minute in respect to the level of competition we are talking about )with alternates - and doing an outstanding job.
I'll be enjoying this final week of the games, but I've already begun the countdown to the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver. 543 days and counting.......
While I'm counting - only 129 days till Christmas :)

My household is going crazy. We've got relatives calling left and right from Jamaica. The pride we feel in our country's accomplishments are amazing.
Yes, I watched. What an amazing race. Top three from one country! She was amazing.
It was certainly was an amazing race, Paul. Some incredible athletes out there :) I can imagine the excitement in the house Stacy-Ann! the Country must be ecstatic - that will be quite a homecoming parade. I am so proud of all of the Olympians :)
It sure has been the year of broken records! and it is amazing how Jamaica swept the 100, traditionally an american medal for sure, I think the last time we did not medal in that event was in 1980 when we boycoted the olympics in Moscow....
For Jamaica ... Track is their national sport, They must be dancing in the streets... So many Jamaican track stars end up in the US for college and have ended up on US teams too...
Yes we are dancing with pride and glee and so much happiness for those kids.
Hopefully we'll be grabbing the 200 too. Oh and the 4 X 100relay. Sanya might take the 400 but not to worry she was born here in JA.
:) An amazing Summer Olympics that's for sure. The athletes just get faster and stronger - - and wow! I'm excited for all of the athletes. I am sure that is going to be one heck of a home coming party/parade for the Jamaican track stars and the rest of their Olympic Team. I am looking forward to the other contests, too :)
It is truly amazing how such a small island can be so dominant in the speed events - Go Jamaica! Make them proud in Kingston!
This year's Olympics was one of the best that I have ever seen. Congratulations to all who participated. Jamaica should be especially proud of all of its athletes.
THanks for stopping by Kent and Leolinda. I had to laugh when they interviewed the American that came in third...and when asked about Bolt - he said something like: that guy can run!
Have a great day y'all :)

Thanks for your article about Olympics Beijing 2008 and track events. I am not sure about U. Bolt and his motive for early celebration at the 100M. Was he doing his best? Perhaps not.
It's USA National Friendship Week, Aug. 17 to 25, 2008.

Kara.. I think it is WONDERFUL how the Jamaican's are doing. Usain Bolt, doesn't impress me though. Great athlete.. but he not a great person. Too large of an ego for me.
I don't like the way he slows up at the end when he figures he has it won - that is being a little cocky - but otherwise I haven't heard any of the back stories or interviews. He is a fast runner, that's for sure. I think his record will be sitting there for some time.
did you see his 200? he did not show boat at the end of that one even though he was way ahead... and just a wee bit of confusion over silver and bronze with 2 disqualifications.... The guy in 5th got Bronze.... he wasnt that happy, he was over heard talking to his agent "I still lost".....
I know - I saw that! Two guys stepping on the lines....geez---isnt' it enough that they have to run like the wind...but they have to keep off the lines too - ugh. Lucky break for the American that ended up with the bronze.
Kara,
I can't believe Christmas is in the countdown! Lightning Bolt is amazing, isn't he?
Mike in Tucson
you can't believe it Mike? Christmas is right around the corner!! :D
