Chasing Pavement

I think that at some point (or two or three...) in our life we all feel like we are chasing pavement.  For those of you that don't know this expression - it means, uhhh, like chasing a dead end.    And there are so many different 'pavements' we are chasing.

                                                          the road to nowhere

  • It could be that dream house that you would love to purchase but it is priced about $1mil more than you will ever have.
  • It could be a client who you have been trying to rationalize with to lower the list price on their property and they just won't budge...and may never budge.
  • It could be that girl or guy that you've had your eye on, who doesn't seem to notice - no matter what you do.

                                             holding hands

  • It could be that job that you have been working your whole life to get and it still seems out of reach.
  • It could even be as simple as hoping the kids won't slam the car door......... to as complex as trying to save the planet.

                                                                       heart shaped planet earth

Are we dreaming?  Or is it really possible?  Can we do it alone - or do we need some help?  Is it healthy to chase pavement? Do we ever catch it?  Or are we just setting ourselves up for failure and hurt down the road?   We have to have goals and dreams, though - don't we? But when is it time to readjust our goals - come back down to reality - and move on?  Is it ever time?

I like this song - take a listen.   'Chasing Pavements by Adele'

I was going to say this headline made me think of this song, and you are right we all come to a place in our lives where we find our self in this place.

Kara, When you stop chasing the pavement, they put you under it :)

Aloha Kara,

I like to think of it as pursing our goals.  How about chasing rainbows.

I'll always re evaluate my goals everyone in awhile, but never stop chasing the pavement!  Great post, thanks!

I think that it is great to have dreams because they give you something to strive for. Even if they seem unattainable, it is oftentimes the journey that is the reward regardless of whether it is attained. Here is one of my favorite quotes.

The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own.

No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame.

The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it.

This is the day your life really begins.

Rich, great quote!  and very true!

Kara, as you know pavement in my world would be a luxury, right now my journey has me drivin' 3 MPH behind a tractor on a dirt road full of pot-holes with a washboard surface, but thank God for my co-pilot and backseat drivers!!!!

Pavement...well, somebody has definitely traveled down pavement before or it would not be paved. In other words, all pavement goes somewhere. Whether it's a dead end or not is entirely up to the individual traveler.

Enough from my "deep" side (obviously, I'm not deep enough or Oprah would have given me my own TV show like Dr. P)...lol

How have you been Kara? Has our Wed. chat moved to Thurs? Sorry I missed out last time (I see you had better things to do that evening as well...:) )

Not to change the subject, but I was watching an Alice Cooper video on YouTube the other night and the subtitle to the lyrics was in Spanish. Though Alice was entertaining, I found myself teaching myself Spanish.

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH YOU?  Read on, pal!

DID YOU KNOW THAT:  Kara spelled with a "C" is the word for "face" in Spanish? I knew the French translation (visage), but Cara??? Sounds funny...

EXAMPLE:  "Excuse me, but there is a rather large pimple on your Cara"

Oh well, must run! Gotta hit the pavement early in the morning. Take care!

-Dr. C

PS:  Before I go, I feel that it's imperative to disclose that I do not watch Alice Cooper videos with any regularity.

Chris, I had to answer you first!  I've been well, and yes... You're right - I knew it already, haha.  (thanks to Sr. O'Neal, my high school Spanish teacher, lol)  and.... in Italian it means 'my lovely/love....or my beloved'...as in the song  'Cara Mia' :)    and...uhhhh.... I'm not real crazy about the nickname, lol.

Tina - Yes we do - thanks. I had a few things on my mind and the song came on and just inspired the post :)

Richard - you have a point there.... I better keep chasin', lol.  :)

Bill - I love the idea of chasing rainbows!  That's a keeper :)

Laura - Thanks, for the most part I keep chasing, too :)

Rich- wow! great quote - thank you :)  and  I agree with you on needing to have something to strive for.

Jane Page - ok - that dirt road is due to be scraped soon...then you will be rolling along a little faster and smoother on that tractor, you'll see!

RE: Nickname

That's why I revised the post. K-Face reminds me of K-Fed (who is a prominent gold digger)

My computer is acting up and will not play the song for me today.  I will come back for that but I believe we always need to have a goal in order to feel any sort of accomplishment.  If the roadway ends we need to start up the 4 wheel and head cross country.  have a good one Cara

Kara, very well said. Seems to be one of my past-times (LOL). I'm always one to say go for it because you never know what your are going to get until you've tried. I guess I gonna be chasing pavements for a long, long time. C. :-)

Good Morning Chris - wow - I would say you made a few tweaks from your original post, lol...and yes it was a late night for me.  Hopefully I can stop by later to chat with y'all.  Wait!! - is is tonight or tomorrow??   :)

Hey Paddy !- hmmm? sometimes my home computer will act up that way, too, lol.  Maybe this link will work (to lyrics.com instead of you tube - and the song will just start playing after a few seconds)

Thank you Carolyn - I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one, lol.   I'll see you on the road AND in the rain :)
